AI calling price per minute in India: a full month costed

AI calling price per minute in India, line by line: per-second billing, free unanswered calls, GST, recharge bonuses and a real month for 300 leads.

By L. Sai Charan Goud · Updated · 7 min read

Key takeaways

  • You pay ₹7.98 a minute of talk time, counted by the second.
  • Calls nobody picks up are not charged.
  • GST of 18% is added on top at checkout, not hidden in the rate.
  • Bigger recharges bring the rate down to ₹4.94 a minute.
  • An illustrative month of 300 leads costs a few thousand rupees, not a salary.

The short version

There is one rate: ₹7.98 a minute of talk time. The meter runs only while someone is on the line, and it counts seconds, not rounded minutes. If the phone rings out, is switched off or is busy, that attempt costs nothing.

If you are comparing tools in general and want to know what the market charges, the AI voice agent pricing guide covers that. This post is only about how our bill is built, so you can predict it before you spend.

Owners usually ask three things about a per-minute price. What exactly is counted? What is not counted? And what will a normal month cost me? The sections below answer each one in that order, with real rupee figures, so you can check our bill against your own leads instead of trusting a headline rate.

Every voice and every language costs the same. A Telugu call, a Hindi call and an English call are all billed at the same rate, with no premium for a better-sounding voice.

What per-second billing means on a real call

Say the AI employee calls a lead about a used car. The call lasts 2 minutes 10 seconds. You are charged for 130 seconds, which is ₹17.29. A tool that rounds up to the next minute would bill 3 full minutes for the same call.

Short calls are common. A lead says "I'll call you back" in 20 seconds, or says it was a mistake. Those calls cost a few rupees, not a whole minute each.

Before dialling, the system sets aside a small amount from your wallet so a call never runs on an empty balance. When the call ends, it charges the actual seconds and returns the rest. You see every charge against the call it belongs to.

What you are not charged for

  • Calls that are not answered, ring out, or hit a switched-off phone
  • Retries that do not connect
  • Building the AI employee, editing it, or changing the brief
  • Reading transcripts, summaries and recordings afterwards
  • A monthly platform or seat fee: there is none

The unanswered part matters more than it looks. On a typical lead list many first attempts do not connect: people are driving, in a meeting, or the number is busy. With some pricing styles you pay a connection fee or a minimum for each of those. Here, a list full of no-answers costs nothing until someone actually picks up.

When your wallet runs out, calls simply stop. Nothing is billed on credit and there is no surprise invoice at the end of the month. Recharge, and the AI employee carries on from where it paused.

GST, recharges and bonus credit

The wallet is prepaid. You recharge, and the rupees you recharge become credits, one credit per rupee. GST at 18% is added on top at checkout, so a ₹1,335 recharge gives ₹1,335 of credit, and the GST shows separately on your invoice.

If your business is GST-registered, that tax line is input credit you can claim, so for most businesses the real cost of calling is the pre-tax rate. If you are not registered, count the GST as part of your cost when you compare.

Larger recharges carry bonus credit, which works out to a lower rate per minute:

RechargeEffective rateTalk time it buys
₹1,335 or more₹7.98/minabout 167 minutes
₹2,700 or more₹7.22/minabout 373 minutes
₹3,600 or more₹6.46/minabout 557 minutes
₹5,000 or more₹6.08/minabout 822 minutes
₹10,000 or more₹5.70/minabout 1,754 minutes
₹25,000 or more₹4.94/minabout 5,060 minutes

Honest advice: do not buy the biggest recharge just for the rate. Start small, see how many minutes a week you really use, then move up a step when you know.

Phone number rental

You do not need your own number to make outbound calls. Rent an Indian number if you want leads to call back on one fixed number, or want the AI employee to answer incoming calls. It starts at ₹649 for 30 days. The details are in phone numbers.

A simple rule: if your leads often say "I'll call you back", a fixed number is worth it, because the call-back reaches you instead of a number they do not recognise. If you only make reminder calls, you can usually skip it.

A worked month: 300 leads (illustrative)

These numbers are an example, not a promise. Your answer rate and call length will differ by industry and by how fresh the leads are.

Say a builder gets 300 leads in a month from Facebook and property portals. 210 of them pick up at some point. Each first conversation runs about 2 minutes. 100 of those are interested and get a follow-up or reminder call of about 1.5 minutes.

  • First calls: 210 × 2 min = 420 minutes
  • Follow-ups: 100 × 1.5 min = 150 minutes
  • Total talk time: 570 minutes
  • At ₹7.98 a minute: about ₹4,549, plus GST of about ₹819
  • At the biggest-recharge rate of ₹4.94 a minute: about ₹2,816 plus GST
  • The 90 leads who never picked up: no talk-time charge

Now the real question: how many site visits did that buy? If even three extra families visit because they were called within seconds, the month has paid for itself many times over.

What would change this bill

  • Longer calls: a loan or college enquiry with many questions can run four or five minutes. Keep the brief tight.
  • Old leads: a list from last year picks up less, so fewer paid minutes but also fewer bookings.
  • More follow-ups: each extra reminder call adds a minute or so per interested lead.
  • A rented number: add the rental if you want call-backs or incoming calls answered.

Compare the total with one telecaller's monthly salary and you see why the maths works for most small businesses. The full side-by-side is in telecaller salary vs AI calling cost.

How to estimate your own bill

  1. Count last month's leads from every source.
  2. Guess how many will pick up. For fresh leads called fast, more pick up than for old ones.
  3. Multiply by two minutes for a first call, and add follow-ups for the interested ones.
  4. Multiply total minutes by ₹7.98 a minute, then add 18% GST.

Or use the AI calling cost calculator, which does this sum for you. The full rules on wallet, holds and refunds are in credits and billing.

Frequently asked questions

How much does AI calling cost per minute in India with ElevateBox?

₹7.98 a minute of talk time, billed by the second, with GST added at checkout. Bigger recharges bring the effective rate down to ₹4.94 a minute. Calls that are not answered are not charged.

Am I charged when the lead does not pick up?

No. Unanswered, busy and switched-off attempts cost nothing, including retries. You only pay for seconds when someone is actually on the line talking to your AI employee.

Is GST included in the per-minute rate?

No. The rate is before tax. GST at 18% is added when you recharge, and it appears as a separate line on your invoice, so you can claim input credit if your business is GST-registered.

Do I have to rent a phone number to make AI calls?

No, outbound calls work without one. Rent a number, from ₹649 for 30 days, only if you want leads to call you back on a fixed number or want incoming calls answered by your AI employee.

Is there a monthly fee on top of the per-minute price?

There is no platform, seat or subscription fee. You pay for talk time from a prepaid wallet, and for a phone number only if you rent one. A month with no calls costs nothing.
