What is connect rate in calling?
Connect rate explained: the share of dialled calls a real person answers, and what raises or lowers it for Indian businesses.

How to calculate connect rate
Divide answered calls by dialled calls. Be clear what counts as answered: a voicemail, a network message or a call cut in two seconds is not a conversation. Many teams track connect rate per lead, counting a lead as connected if any attempt reached them, alongside the rate per attempt.
What changes connect rate
- Speed of the first call: a lead called while they are still on your form or ad is far more likely to pick up than one called the next day (see lead response time)
- Time of day: calling during working hours and avoiding meal times and late evenings, tested on your own leads
- Number reputation: a number marked as spam by many people, or one that has made thousands of short calls, gets ignored or flagged on the phone
- Retries: a second or third attempt at a different time reaches people who were busy the first time
- Lead quality: wrong numbers and leads who did not mean to enquire never connect
Why it matters for AI calling
An AI caller can ring a new lead within seconds, retry at set gaps and work through a list in parallel, which addresses the biggest levers on connect rate. With per-second billing on connected talk-time only, unanswered attempts cost nothing, so retries do not add to the bill.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between connect rate and conversion rate?
Connect rate is how many dialled calls a person answered. Conversion rate is how many of those conversations reached the goal, such as a booked visit. A campaign can have a good connect rate and still convert poorly.
How do I improve my connect rate?
Call new leads within minutes, retry at different times, keep your calling number's reputation clean, and clean wrong numbers out of your list. Measure each change on your own leads.
Does a local number improve connect rate?
Many people are more willing to answer a familiar or local-looking number than an unknown one. Test it on your own leads before assuming it helps.
